Prepare Your Online Quit Plan

Here are some more reasons to consider.

  • My chances of having serious mouth disease are greater for biting suffers.
  • I will be less likely to catch colds or the flu, as I will not be touching my face and mouth which we know can transfer bad bacteria into your oral area.
  • My posture will be improved and my face will be its normal shape.
  • My nerves will be better.
  • My skin will look healthier and I will look more youthful.
  • My teeth will not become ground down.

Quitting will make you feel better and improve your health. But there are other reasons to quit that you might not have thought about.

Choose Your Quit Day

Set Your Quit Date. The first step to becoming bitefree is to choose when you want to quit.

Here are some tips to help you choose a Quit Date:

Give yourself time to prepare. Getting prepared can help you build the confidence and skills you will need to stay bitefree.
Do not put it off for too long. Picking a date too far away gives you time to change your mind or become less motivated. Choose a date that is no more than a week or two away.
If you¹re having a hard time setting a date, review your quit plan again and access the reasons you want to quit. Remember your personalized quit plan is there to help you stay focused, confident, and motivated to quit.

How to Handle Triggers and Cravings

Knowing your biting triggers can help you learn to manage them.

Triggers can be specific places, peope or activities that make you feel like biting.

Cravings are short but intense urges to nibble, bite or chew. They can last a few minutes or it can be a prolonged period. Plan ahead and come up with a list of activities you can do when you get a craving.

For example: Insert your SoftGuard into your mouth and find a soothing piece of music to relax with.

As a biter you are often touching your face and are more likely to loose skin elasticity around the mouth. Your skin tone may become dull and greyish and become stretched over time. By your early 30s, wrinkles can begin to appear around your mouth adding years to your face. The good news is this is all reversible and it is a case of quitting as soon as possible.

Biting addiction is hard to beat because the process changes your brain. The brain develops extra pain receptors to accommodate your constant harming of the mouth lining. When the brain stops getting the painful hurt it¹s used to, the result is basic withdrawal. You may feel anxious, irritable, and have strong cravings to nibble again.

Biting takes a toll on your mouth. Biters and chewers have more oral health problems than non-biters, like mouth sores, ulcers and muccous membrane damage. You are more likely to wear out your teeth due to over use. You are also likely to get cancers of the mouth.

Immediate Rewards

You¹re considering the process to quit biting and you have been for some time. Do you know the reasons you want to give it up? Do you want to be healthier? Save on dental bills? Look less anxious in meetings? All reasons are valid and should be considered?

There is no anatomical for us to bite or chew our inner cheeks. When you bite, you are constantly damaging your muccous membrane, an important membrane that lines your mouth.

The good news is this damage is repairable and your body begins its healing process within 20 minutes. However a small nibble can take up to 3 days to heal fully. As your body starts to repair itself, you may feel worse instead of better. Withdrawal of biting can be difficult, but it’s a sign that your body is healing.
